Don't take her single "Bye Bye" seriously!
Jo Dee is here to stay

Jo Dee MessinaJo Dee has a mass appeal to audiences of all ages & an infectious laugh that never seems to stop. Watch out ‘Tickle Me Elmo’ you may be losing your job!
The first time I got to talk to Jo Dee was at the Fan Fair Celebrity Softball game. She was so hoarse she could barely squeak out a word or two. So when I went to the International Fan Club Organization Show, IFCO, the same night, I was shocked to hear she had not been pulled from the program. I thought ‘Oh, this oughta be good!" Well, maybe she couldn’t talk, but she sure danced around and belted out her songs, like she didn’t have a sore throat at all. That’s Jo Dee, she gives her all for the audience. We caught up with her again at the Donald Trump Casino, when she could talk!

JL: Where did you grow up?
JDM: I was born & raised in Holliston, Mass.,and lived there my entire life. When I was about 19 I moved to Nashville.

JL: When did you start singing?
JDM: I’ve been singing my whole life, since I was teeny-tiny. I started singing professionally in clubs when I was 13.

JL: You’re very energetic on stage, has that always been part of your act?
JDM: I guess anybody that knows me would say it’s pretty hard for me to stay in one spot. I always ‘get down’ and dance around in my shows.

JL: How many years did you play in the clubs before you got your record deal?
JDM: Well, I played in the Mass. area from the time I was 13 to 19, then I played different clubs and talent contests in Nashville for another 4 or 5 years, so I’d say about 11 or 12 years.

JL: Tim McGraw produced your first album, how did you meet him?
JDM: Well, when I met Tim we were just a couple of kids kicking around Nashville. It was long before ‘Indian Outlaw’ hit. Just two kids looking for a record deal. We became friends and have remained friends through the years. It was exciting for Tim to produce my first album, but what was more exciting, was to watch Tim go from the kid I used to know, to the superstar he is today!

Jo Dee MessinaJL: Your first album was released in ’96, how long do the fans have to wait for the next one?
JDM: We’ve finally finished the second album, and I’m real excited about that. The single ‘Bye Bye’ was released in Oct. for radio airplay. I think they’re going to wait until after the Christmas Holidays to release the album, but they may be able to buy the single in the stores before then.

JL: What’s your personal favorite off the album?
JDM: We took over a year to pick the songs, so each one had to be special to get recorded, but ‘Even God Must Get the Blues’ touches my heart.

JL: What was your favorite off your first album?
JDM: 'Heads Carolina’ launched my career, and it’s a fun song to sing, so it’s one of them.

JL: Has anything exciting happened to you out on the road?
JDM: Well, when Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks kidnapped me and took me up in a hot air balloon, that was pretty exciting!

JL: Where can the fans catch you now?
JDM: Just watch for the Fruit of the Loom tour! I was lucky to be on this tour. One of the neatest things about it was to get the chance to know Charlie Daniels. He’s just a super man!

JL: What’s the strangest thing a fan brought you to autograph?
JDM: Well, on the Fruit of the Loom tour, a lot of people are bringing their underwear! Now that’s an odd thing for me to be signing!
