The Great Divide . . .
is a tightly knit group! They’ve been together for 5 years, playing over 125 gigs a year, and traveling in a 1984 Chevy Suburban. They created such a large following of fans, they caught the attention of Atlantic Records. Atlantic signed them and has now released their first single, and video ‘Never Could’, maybe they’ll get a bus!

Watch for them in your area . . .
They’re going be touring heavily to promote their new album. I went to see them at a showcase in Nashville, and what really impressed me is … what you see is what you get. And what you hear on the record, is what you hear when you go to their concerts. Don’t you hate it when you go to a concert and the act sounds nothing like their records? No surprises here! Just 4 guys who write their own songs, and play their own instruments. Both on stage, and in the studio.

Not really country - not really rock - just Great Music . . .
With 2 lead singers on stage, you also get a very diverse show. According to The Great Divide, they’re not divided at all. They don’t play ‘country’, and they don’t play ‘rock’, they just play ‘American’ music.

gdivide1.jpg (11979 bytes)From left to right, Scotte Lester (Guitar/Vocals), Kelley Green (Bass Guitar), Mike McClure (Lead Vocals/Lead Guitar), and J.J. Lester (Drummer). They all live in Stillwater, Ok., and all the families are very close. Scotte and J.J. are brothers.

3 Bull Riders and a 'city boy' . . .
Mike is considered the ‘city boy’ in the group. Kelley, Scotte and J.J. were all bull riders in the local rodeo circuit. Kelley said he’s broken all but one rib. It’s a good thing he travels with Scotte, since he’s an ex-Marine and an EMT. So, if you have the old notion that Cowboys are of the ‘slow’ mind … like ‘8 seconds’ … better think again. Mike went to OSU, where he majored in Psychology and English. Kelley has a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics.

Being in the music business, I think J.J. may be the smartest of them all. He used to work for a company selling screen printing materials, so he should be able to get them some really good deals on hats and T-Shirts! Make sure you get yours, and get it autographed.

Hardest thing to autograph for a fan . . .
"Whenever somebody brings you a guitar pick to sign, 4 of us on one guitar pick is a trick. Hopefully they bring us albums to sign."

Most important map in the 'bus'?
The Cracker Barrel Map! . . .

Their favorite food … home cookin’! ‘We have a Cracker Barrel map in our glovebox. That’s how we gauge our trips, a 2 Cracker Barrel trip, a 1 Cracker Barrel trip. We’ve turned down gigs that didn’t have a Cracker Barrel nearby!’ So all you fans can start checking the Cracker Barrel parking lots! If The Great Divide is coming to your area, you can probably find them there!

At the time of this interview, they’re single ‘Never Could’ was quickly climbing the Billboard and Gavin Charts and their video is up to #30 on CMT. Not bad for some bullriders just coming out of the chute!

Hot New Artists & Albums
Kris Tyler ‘What A Woman Knows’ I don’t know what will happen with this album, now that Rising Tide Records has closed. But it’s one of the few albums I put on, and left on and listened to all of it. Of course I liked some songs better than others, don’t we all? My favorite was ‘Love Don’t Be A Stranger’. Produced by Tony Brown and Emory Gordy, Jr. You can hear a lot of the Patty Loveless influence in this album, done Kris Tyler style.
Daryle Singletary ‘Ain’t it The Truth’... The truth is… this will be a Giant album! Daryle may have lost a lot of weight, but he definitely found some great songs, and is a heavyweight contender on the charts! There’s gonna be more than one top ten from this album.

A Sign of the Times . . .
You know you’re in the kitchen with a city boy when you ask what his favorite ‘staple’ is , and he says ‘Swingline’
Recipe
Ralph Emery’s Baked Beans!
Just in time for family picnics!

8 cans pork & beans
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup mustard
1/4 cup sweet relish
1 pound of bacon

Combine all ingredients in large cake pan. Layer bacon on top. Bake at 350 degrees for a few hours. According to Ralph, the longer it bakes, the better the beans. Jolene’s variation, add ½ cup chopped onions.
