George Strait's King Range Chicken!
Chris Cummings . . .
is not a hat act . . . unless you count the helmet he wears playing street hockey. He could ccum2.jpg (4061 bytes)give you a history lesson on hockey, just don’t get him started unless you have a lot of time to listen. They even worked it into his latest video, as this is how he stays in shape out on the road. So far he’s says he’s been real lucky, he’s still got all his teeth. Which is a good thing. He’s really got something to smile about now. After 5 years in a development deal with Warner Brothers, his first album in the U.S. has been released. It was produced by Rick Scott and Jim Ed Norman. Jim Ed has been working with Chris since he first heard him sing eight years ago. Chris was actually called out of his high school math class to fly to Nashville, and meet with Jim Ed.

So a lot of folks wonder why it took so long. Four of the songs from a different version of this album have already been released in Canada, charting in the Top 20 on Canadian charts. Chris’ song ‘Sure Enough’ went to No. 1 on the singles chart, and the video also reached No. 1 on CMT Canada. ‘I Waited’ reached No. 4, and was the fifth most-played country song of the year.

Well, Chris said, "I waited. Jim Ed and Warner Brothers felt that I needed to grow moreccum3.jpg (5349 bytes) as a writer, and a musician. It was hard. Sometimes I’d wake up and wonder what I was doing with my life.’

Was it worth the wait? Apparently so, since Chris has 7 songs on the album that he co-wrote. One of my favorites is ‘Minute and a Half’, which Chris wrote with Rick Scott. But, I must admit I am totally prejudice when it comes to ‘Til I See You Again’. Written by Kevin Welch, hopefully this song will be one that they choose to release to radio. I’ve even seen the Dixie Chicks do this song in their act.

If you believe that ‘variety is the spice of life’. You’ll probably like Chris Cummings, and his new album.
