Double Feature
Cledus T. Judd & James T. Horn
Nominated twice as the Funniest Country Performer by the readers of Country Weekly, Cledus T. Judd (NO RELATION) is a man with a creative flair! Make sure you take notice of his hair! Before becoming a performer, he was a hairdresser and competed in many international hairdressing events. Cletus knew he needed an angle to go from cutting hair to cutting records. He had to stand out in the crowd, as thousands of singers go to Nashville wanting a record deal! According to Cledus, "One record executive told me that my parodies were brilliant but I sang off pitch! Hell, I wouldn’t be funny if I could sing!" And believe me, Cletus is a one man riot!

From his first parodies of Indian In-laws and Please Take The Girl, he went on to Gone Funky, If Shania Were Mine, & She’s got a Butt Bigger Than the Beatles. Every artist in Nashville has learned that no one is safe! He told Deana Carter she’s next with a parody of her big hit and call it Boones Farm Wine. Will he wear shoes in the video? We’ll just have to wait and see!

His second album, I Stoled This Record, is selling like hot cakes! But don’t offer Cledus anything fattening! He says beans are good! He’s lost about 35 pounds so far! "I’m not worried" says Cletus "about my sexy image, just my health". He wants to make sure he has plenty of energy for dancing around the stage on his Wal-Mart fall tour. Knowing Cledus, he’ll probably be off the stage, dancing with the fans! Unlike a lot of artists, Cledus likes to mingle with us ‘common folk’ who give him soap & deodroant for gifts….something to do with his "Stinkin’ Problem"?! Yeah, he’s a stinkin’ genius!

James T. Horn
A visit with Curb/Universal’s hot new talent

Geronimo … here he goes! James T. Horn, on Curb/Universal, stopped by to eat and play us his first release. Like Cledus, he’s losing weight too! But he’s losing it to look good in his video!

"I really miss Grandma’s peanut butter & jelly sandwiches & grape Kool-Aid" claimed James. "It’s the stuff I grew up on! But those cameras put 10 pounds on you, so you have to lose those pounds to look like yourself."

With his heavy tour schedule of fairs & rodeos, he shouldn’t have any trouble keeping it off. James said his Grandmother’s love of music was passed down to several family members. One uncle toured with Neil Sedaka & two others were in Pake McEntire’s band.

Hard work was another family tradition, and giving up was not an option. "Every label in town turned me down…twice! I just kept writing until I landed a job writing for Sony/Tree Publishing. I finally picked out 3 killer songs and went into the studio with my friend Chuck Howard, and recorded them, just acoustic/vocal demo’s. Within 30 days I had two contract offers!" That’s a big jump! The fans are going to be screaming ... Geronimo!

The Great
Guitar Pull
I had the opportunity to see John McEuen in The Great Guitar Pull, at the Ryman Theatre, where he managed to steal the show. He truly is a master entertainer!

During the IFCO show at the Ryman, Ricky Lynn Gregg stole the show with a standing ovation! He’ll also steal your heart, so watch for him to come to your town!

Noel Haggard
(Atlantic Records) took me over to visit with his Dad, Merle Haggard. I told Merle he had left his son some mighty big shoes to fill, but he says, "the kid will do just fine, we not only wear the same size shoes but shirt too!" Merle missed his date at the Wildhorse Saloon, he was in the hospital. He says he’s doing fine now & will be back on the road soon.
Merle Haggard
Merle even had a joke for us all! "I used to have a dog named Tax" said Merle. "I’d put him outside, but every time I opened the door … In come Tax (Income Tax!)" That’s Merle! We all wish you well.
